The Benefits of Nutritional Therapy

The benefits of nutritional therapy are well documented. Your diet and lifestyle can influence your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. A consultation with a BCNH Nutritional Therapist will help you identify areas of weakness and help you preprae a strategy for improvement. In this way, you will get the knowledge and skills to achieve maximum health benefits.

Apart from science-based evidence, we believe in working with the medical profession, not against them. We see Nutrition as a complementary therapy, not as an ‘alternative’ to medicine.

About BCNH Student Practitioner Consultations

BCNH Good Health Nutrition consultations include diet and lifestyle analysis & nutritional recommendations based on the analysis of your Health Programme Questionnaire (HPQ) and any biochemical or functional tests. The aim is to inform you about your nutritional strengths and weaknesses, so you can take control of your own health and make ‘educated’ choices about your diet and lifestyle.

However, nutritional advice is NOT a substitute for medical advice and we may refer you to your GP if necessary.

About the FOUR Stages of a GHN Nutrition Consultation:-

Stage 1 (1.5 hr approx.):
A fact finding consultation & diet/lifestyle analysis & recommendations

This stage involves analysis of your completed Health Programme Questionnaire (HPQ) and general diet & lifestyle recommendations. Your dietary and lifestyle strengths and weaknesses will be highlighted and recommendations presented in a written report, which a Student Practitioner (SP) will email to you, following the consultation. SP will also set goals and objectives for your health outcomes.

Stage 2 (1.5 hr approx.):
Analysis & explanations re: your main health concerns & a nutritional treatment plan

This stage is approx 3 weeks later, as SP’s preparation work must be checked & approved by a BCNH-qualified Clinical Tutor first. At this stage a SP will explain their findings about your main health concerns, such as various contributing factors and their mechanisms. They may also suggest biochemical or functional tests if necessary in addition to a personalised supplement programme to address any nutritional imbalances. All recommendations will be presented in a written report, which will be emailed to you following the consultation.

Stage 3 (1 hr approx.):
A follow-up consultation approx. 5 weeks later

Before your follow-up consultation, you will be asked to evaluate your progress on the Client Symptoms Sheet. This will help SP evaluate your progress and identify any residual symptoms. Your diet, lifestyle and supplement programme will be reviewed and any biochemical or functional tests that you may have done will be explained. New recommendations will be given accordingly.

Stage 4 (30 – 45 min. approx.):
This is a second follow-up consultation approx. 5 weeks later.

The purpose of this consultation is to review your nutritional programme and to agree a long-term (6 months) nutritional strategy plan for you to follow.

Confidentiality

BCNH and student practitioners have an implicit duty to keep all information and records about our clients entirely confidential. No disclosure may be made to any third party, including any member of your own family, without your written consent. BCNH Approach to Supplementation

At BCNH we treat supplements with respect. To ensure all supplement recommendations are within the Government recommendation limits, the BCNH Principal has designed a BCNH Supplement Calculations Sheet showing the information such as UK Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) & Safe Upper Limits (SUL). The total value of all the prescribed nutrients is then compared against the government recommendations.

At BCNH we always stress that supplements are not a substitute for healthy eating and they must not replace your prescribed medications. If you are taking any prescribed medications we will ask you to consult your GP and seek his/her permission to follow the recommended supplement programme and any other dietary changes.
